Chair response to recent publication by Cornish Times
As Chair of Menheniot Parish Council I would comment on your article headlining that the recent approval for the Tencreek development has resulted in a reduced number of Affordable Homes (AH) to be built.
Under the approval for this development the number of AH to be provided under the policy guidance was 50 (35 rent and 15 shared ownership).
The subsequent application, for an amended legal agreement and AH provision, was not supported by Menheniot Parish Council. After meetings with the Planning Officer to seek an agreement on what could be acceptable, the Parish Council requested the application to be considered by the SE Cornwall Planning committee.
Following this request and discussions between Cllr Smith the Divisional Member and the Planning Officers, an improved provision was submitted of 20 homes for rent and 20 homes for shared ownership through Wain Homes PLUS 16 (15 rented and 1 shared ownership) through Ocean Housing.
These 16 additional homes to be secured by Wain Homes before an approval would be given, as well as ensuring they would be offered first to those from Menheniot and Liskeard on the Homes Choice register. The 15 dwellings for rent have been advertised and allocated to Menheniot and Liskeard residents.
The provision of 56 Affordable Homes, 6 more than approved originally and the allocations process being adopted, exceeded Menheniot Parish Councils policy in its NDP, and therefore was supported.
